Sclerotherapy is a medical-aesthetic treatment used to treat spider veins and small varicose veins, usually on the legs.
How It Works
- A special sclerosant solution (often polidocanol or sodium tetradecyl sulfate) is injected directly into the vein.
- The solution irritates the vein lining, causing it to collapse and seal shut.
- The treated vein is then naturally reabsorbed by the body over a few weeks.
- Blood flow is redirected to healthier veins, improving circulation and appearance.
Treatment Benefits
- Reduces or eliminates visible veins
- Minimal downtime (you can usually walk straight after)
- Can improve leg comfort if veins were causing aching or heaviness
- Works on small varicose veins and spider veins, but not on large varicose veins (which often need surgery or laser)
Treatment Plan Example
- Most clients require 1–3 sessions for optimal results
- Sessions are typically spaced 4–6 weeks apart
- Wearing compression stockings for 1–2 weeks after treatment is often recommended to support healing and results
